Risks Assessment of Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg) and Zinc (Zn): A case study of <i>Tilapia guineensis</i> in Lagos Lagoon

This study determined the daily intake of copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn) and mercury (Hg) in order to assess both carcinogenic non-carcinogenic risks caused by heavy metals Tilapia guineensis Lagos Lagoon. The were using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometer. metal distribution was Zn > Cu Pb Hg with values 0.0248±0.04, 0.0093±0.01, 0.0005±0.00 0.000±0.00 mg/kg respectively. Daily Intake Metal (0.02) (0.01) (0.00) ≥ (0.00), while Target Hazard Quotient decreased (3.82×10-4) (9.54×10-5) (2.49×10-6) (0.00). for Health Risk Index 0.016 0.00 (Hg), 0.006 0.034 that Quotients 0.400 0.187 0.066 (Hg). Similarly, all less than one. showed consumption fish from area had no health implication Hg, Zn, Pb. However, Cancer (1.38×10-8) indicated minimum cancer consumers. ecological quotients also revealed T. Lagoon constituted risk environment since ERQs one (i.e. ERQ < 1).
